PSSDC organises STP Briefing for Auditors in the Lagos State Public Service

The Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) Magodo will continue to assist all human resource hubs in the State Public Service in ensuring the delivery of their people management mandate, the Director-General, Dr. Senukon Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison, has said.

Speaking during a briefing session on the 2020 STP for Auditors held in collaboration with the Audit Service Commission, on Wednesday at the Centre's Magodo premises, the Director-General said the briefing session was necessary to remind auditors of the crucial roles they play in governance and to also intimate them of what to expect as they prepare for their Y2020 Structured Training Programme for promotion scheduled for March 19, 2020.

Ajose-Harrison said expectations were high on the roles expected of the auditors in the implementation of government programmes and urged them to open their minds to what they would be taught and interact well with their facilitators, reiterating commitment of PSSDC to executing Y2020 Structured Training Programmes for promotion for all eligible officers across board.

The Director-General further said auditors play a pivotal role in nation building saying their primary responsibility is to checkmate anomalies in the system. He said integrity must be the watch word and must not be compromised at all times, urging officers to play their role effectively by setting and maintaining standards that will move Lagos forward.

Ajose-Harrison asked Auditors to always display competence at their respective desk saying they are professionals and they should be seen as such. "Sometimes people can stagnate if they fail to improve on themselves. Improvement is knowing how to do your job well. Performance is key and whoever cannot perform should not enjoy elevation. Everyone must show competence as it is the only way to support the present administration ", he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of Audit Service Commission, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Adegbuji-Onikoyi, reminded the auditors of the administrative roles they play in the day to day running of various MDAs and the State Government at large, saying institutions won't function well if auditors do not play their watch dog role effectively.

The Chairman, who was represented by Mrs. Jokotola Ogundimu, a Commissioner in the Commission, said the roles played by Auditors in building strong institutions should not be underplayed; hence premium should be placed on integrity and at no time should they expediently accept standards that are lower than is desirable.

To ensure optimal performance of the Auditors at their respective duty post, PSSDC has designed Performance Improvement Courses 1 to 3 for officers in Grade Levels 02 to 12 and Career Enhancement Courses 1 and 2 for officers in Grade Levels 13 to 16 respectively.
