LASG holds STP Briefing for Employees in the Unified Local Government Service

The Lagos State Government, through the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) and the Local Government Service Commission, has organised a 2-day briefing on the Structured Training Programme (STP) for promotion for local government employees eligible for Y2020 promotion exercise in the State.

Speaking during the briefing on Wednesday at the Old Secretariat, Ikeja, the Director-General of PSSDC, Dr. Senukon Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison, stated the necessity to continue bridging the information gap at the local government level and ensure that all state workers are well-informed on the the activities of government with a view to encouraging synergy across  all the tiers of the State Public Service.

Ajose-Harrison, who was represented by the Director, Management Consultancy Services, Mr. Olusola Ayodele Kolawole, explained that the STP is one of the prerequisites for promotion and is being conducted service-wide for state, local government and other levels of Public Service staff, adding that all employees in the state must be on the same page.

The Director-General further said, apart from participating in the Structured Training Programme (STP), employees must have got good appraisals from their respective supervisors and must have also performed well in the Oral interview before they can advance in their respective careers.

Ajose-Harrison said representatives of the local government employees from each of the 20 Local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state, including Council Managers, Human Resource Officers, Administrative Heads and Establishment Officers, were invited for the briefing urging the representatives to ensure proper dissemination of Information about the briefing from the highest cadre to the lowest cadre. 

The Director-General said the Y2020 STP has been scoped to address specific skills, knowledge and attitude that will bring about career progression of officers, saying Public Servants in the State must be familiar with the projects encapsulated in the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda and stay committed to contributing to the achievement of the six development pillars of the current administration for the actualisation of a greater Lagos.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission,  Mrs. Folashade Owolola Faseun advised officers to cooperate with PSSDC facilitators to ensure a successful and seamless implementation of  Y2020 promotion exercise.

Faseun said every officer qualified for the year 2020 promotion should not be left out of the bracket and advised Human Resource Managers in each of the LGAs and LCDAs to continue to enlighten their officers saying the bedrock of the State Civil Service is the Local Government.

The Permanent Secretary said every vital information about the STP should be widely publicised so that all eligible officers in each local government will be aware.

The STP for all local governments staff in Lagos State is scheduled to commence on Monday 16th of March, 2020. The Programme is expected to last for 5 days at different training grounds and  courses to be taken include Performance Improvement Courses 1 to 3 for officers on Grade Levels 1 to 12 and Career Enhancement Courses 1 and 2 for officers on Grade Levels 13 to 16.
